My name is Cate Lorenz. I am a Licensed Washington State Mental Health Counselor, a National Certified Counselor and a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist. I have been practicing in the mental health field for 13 years. I received my Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling from Argosy University/Seattle in 2008. I have a BA degree in social sciences/psychology focus from the University of Alaska Southeast. I have worked in a variety of settings including: community mental health, research and development, in-home therapeutic services, schools and private practice.

My formal training in mental health counseling consisted mainly of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (how our perception of situations rather than situations themselves influence our behavior). The problem solving part of CBT draws from many different modalities including: Solution Focused Therapy, Mindfulness, Positive Psychology and Interpersonal Psychology. I have also incorporated the following into my practice: Life Span Integration Therapy, Clinical Hypnosis/Hypnotherapy, Transpersonal Psychology (spiritual aspects of the human experience), Meditation, Emotional Freedom Technique (Tapping/EFT) and Insight Reiki. Please click on the individual pages of Life Span Integration, Hypnotherapy, Reiki and Biofield Tuning to find out more. I have also incorporated a partner into my practice of the 4 legged-kind—Oliver the borderdoodle—who helps out as a therapy dog.

I have lived in the Pacific Northwest for the past 17 years with my husband and our furry family members (presently three dogs, two cats, four miniature goats and four miniature donkeys). Before that, our family lived in various places in the U.S. and overseas. When I am not seeing clients, I enjoy spending time with family/friends, playing and relaxing with our pets and taking time to explore/experience our beautiful Pacific Northwest. I also enjoy attending trainings and seminars to continually hone and further develop my therapeutic skills/knowledge.
My Approach
I integrate complementary and holistic therapeutic modalities. This integration allows for a highly personalized approach tailored to my clients’ individual needs. It also speaks to working with clients from a framework that includes mind/body/spirit. I provide support, practical feedback and guidance to help you effectively address and move forward through your challenges and struggles. I work collaboratively with clients and pride myself on meeting them where they are at in their life experience. The experience of therapy can be scary and intimidating. I get that and I can hold space for whatever you have to share through a safe atmosphere of nonjudgmental and compassionate listening. I will ask you to trust that opening up to your vulnerabilities and fears is not going to “break you” (even if it feels like it), but rather it will be the beginning of the real change you desire. One thing I know for sure as a therapist and am witness to for every client that is willing to do the work: we are already equipped with what we need to face, work through and learn from any struggles/challenges that may come up. Sometimes we just need some guidance along the way to find our own pathway to growth, healing and change. And so……….
I invite you to show up exactly as you are.
In order to release what no longer serves you well.
To assist you in rewriting your story.
And to enable you to move on to the life that fits best for you and is waiting to be embraced by you.
